What is digital photography?

Digital photography is the response of a technologically driven society to the medium of analog photography. It is faster, with self-gratification or disappointment at the push of a button. This may sound derogatory towards the medium, but it isn't. It is just another reflection of the society that we live in. Faster is always better, time is money, hurry up, society is always pushing us to move faster.

Digital photography has many positive aspects. Being able to adjust images taken in RAW to compensate for an improper exposure used when in a hurry definitely is an advantage. Making a collage, or using the many features of photoshop can create some interesting images. So I welcome the addition of digital photography to the various other processes that constitute the medium of photography.

What I find disturbing is the attitude that traditional photography is somewhat inferior, maybe antiquated, and on the way out. Whether it is pixels or silver halide crystals, they both have their positive and negative aspects. I hope that the two methods can coexist enabling photographers to create the images that they want, continuing to push the limits.
